How do I use a tracked stair chair going down?
Strap the patient in and tilt the chair back onto its tracks at the top step. Let the tracks roll over each step edge while you control speed from the handles. A second person at the foot end guides and spots. Practise first.
Is a stair stretcher safe for all patients?
No. The patient must be able to sit upright safely. Do not use it for suspected spinal injuries or unconscious patients without support. Use a spine board or scoop stretcher instead. Always strap the patient in and keep control on every step.
