How do you choose an oxygen mask?
- Oxygen need: high need calls for a non-rebreather; medium need suits a simple mask.
- Flow source: check your cylinder or concentrator can reach the flow.
- Size: child masks must not press on the eyes.
- Material: latex-free PVC suits allergy-prone patients.
- Tubing: confirm the length reaches from the source to the bed.
Non-rebreather vs simple oxygen mask vs nasal cannula
| Non-rebreather | Simple mask | Nasal cannula | |

| Oxygen level | High | Medium | Low to medium |

A doctor or nurse should choose the device and flow for each patient.
How to fit a non-rebreather
Connect the tubing and set the flow to 10–15 L/min. Block the valve with a thumb until the bag fills. Place the mask over the nose and mouth. Pinch the nose clip and pull the strap snug. Watch that the bag stays partly full.
Oxygen safety at home
Keep oxygen at least two metres from flames, stoves and heaters. Never smoke near oxygen. Do not use oil-based creams on the face. Keep cylinders upright and secured.
Supply for hospitals and ambulances
ERs and ambulances keep several masks of each type ready. Order adult and child sizes together. Tell us your monthly use and we will suggest a quantity. Store boxes sealed, away from sunlight, and check expiry dates on arrival.
